Students Struggled With…

  • Checking conditions if the problem did not separately ask them to do so.

  • Setting up normal distribution problems where we selected one out of the population as opposed to giving them a sample size. 

Remedies…

  • Continue to emphasize the importance of the conditions. Have on hand the "Where Are All The Green Skittles?" lesson to continue to emphasize why we need these conditions. Use some ideas from this blog post to see other ways to present the 10% and large counts condition.

  • Always ask the students what selecting "a" object means. Once the students realize that n = 1, they can use the sample procedures they have been doing when we give them a sample size.
