Get ready for a full day of 4-step procedures! This data analysis will give students the opportunity to try all of the inference procedures in Chapter 10. Doing all of these problems in one class period might be too ambitious, so here are some other options:

  1. Assign a few in class and a few for homework.

  2. Jigsaw. Create small groups (size 4 works well here) and assign each group 1-3 problems.

  3. Take 2 days to do all this data analysis.

For questions #2 and #4, you will need to have students fill in the blanks based on which team (Team A or Team B) performed better at the gym/football field.

For questions #5 and #6 (paired t procedures), the students will only be using the data for their team. They will not be comparing their team's results to the other team's results.

This activity is a great opportunity to get student work up on the board using a 4-step white board critique.

  1. Assign a group of students one of the 4-step problems. Ideally you have a group of 4 where each student can be responsible for one step of the 4-step process.

  2. Send them to the white board to write up the steps STATE, PLAN, DO, or CONCLUDE.

  3. Once all 4 steps are on the board, call the class back together as a group. Ask them to critique the solution on the board as if it were a quiz or test question. Make any revisions with a red marker. This is your opportunity to make clear your expectations for a 4-step problem on an assessment.
