Chapter 7 Test

Day 73

Start Here
Questions to be Sure to Include
  • Make sure that one of the questions requires students to do inferential thinking. This will require them to first do a probability calculation and then to answer the question “Do we have convincing evidence of ________”.

  • A question where students are asked to calculate a probability of getting a certain value for one individual from the population, then also asked to calculate the probability of getting a certain mean for a sample of individuals. Students should interpret their answer for each.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask a Chapter 6 binomial question on this test if it fits.

  • It is not necessary to have students create a sampling distribution with all possible samples from a very small population (like in the activity from Section 7.1). This task works well for introducing the concept of a sampling distribution, but is not necessary to assess.

  • At least one old AP question.  There are many to choose from and they are very accessible for students after completing this chapter.

Tips to Give Your Students
  • Close reading and careful writing are critical to your success this year.

  • Be sure to answer all parts of each question.

  • There are a lot of formulas in this Chapter. Don’t memorize them.  Understand them. Know how the formulas for a binomial distribution relate to the formulas for the sampling distribution of a sample proportion.

  • Know everything on the Chapter 7 Review sheet. This will also help you for the rest of the course.

  • Be able to read a question and quickly identify whether the question is referring to the population distribution or the sampling distribution. If the question requires a sampling distribution, is it for a sample proportion or for a sample mean?
