Chapter 9 - Day 3 - Lesson 9.2

Learning Targets
  • State hypotheses and check conditions for performing a significance test about a difference between two proportions.

  • Calculate the standardized test statistic and P-value for a significance test about a difference between two proportions.

  • Use the four-step process to perform a significance test about a difference between two proportions.

Yesterday we learned about two proportion confidence intervals.  Today we will extend that to two proportion significance tests.  We’d encourage you to let students work through this without assistance in groups.  You may need to talk about the hypotheses.  By this point in the year, our goal is for students to apply their previous learning to a new situation.  Students have told us they think the second semester is easier than the first because it is really just the same thing over and over but slightly different.  This tells us that we’re doing a good job of showing them the connections in the content.
