Creating Venn diagrams from a story problem. Many students did not subtract the overlap when filling in the circles for each event.
Remedies…

Remind students that the probability of the process they propose must match the probability given in the scenario. Many students used coin flips to model something that should be 75%.

Encourage students to make a two-way table before making a Venn diagram. Finding the parts are much easier in a two-way table. Once the table is made, the Venn diagram can be made from that.
